|Reopening arts centres and theatres
While the opening of museums, galleries and cinemas is very welcome, Theatre Forum has joined with colleagues this week to express disappointment that safe and controlled events in theatres, arts centres and music venues remain prohibited under the guidelines.
We know how hard arts centres and theatres throughout Ireland have worked to ensure that they are models of best practice, and to provide safe environments for artists, staff and audience and will continue to make this case.
Clarity for Arts Centres planning cinema programmes from December
If you’re planning a cinema programme, check that you’re compliant with the agreed ‘Guidance for the Safe Operation of Cinemas during Covid-19’. It’s similar to the latest Arts Centre – Working During Covid-19 Guidelines but with some specific requirements.
Organisations operating as a cinema facility should include a pop-up banner and link on its website with the following wording “We are committed to the Health & Safety of our staff and audiences. And we operating under the agreed protocols described under “Guidance documents for the Safe Operations of Cinemas during COVID-19 Resilience and Recovery 2020-2021”. A copy of which can be found here http://saveyourcinema.ie/” with a hyperlink to the document. The banner should be in a prominent position.
Arts Centres and other facilities may make their own arrangements for cinema opening dates, but must be fully compliant with the Guidance for the Safe Operation of Cinemas during Covid-19 before they do so. In addition, Arts Council funded arts centres and facilities that plan a cinema programme should also notify the Arts Council of their opening dates.
Thank you so much to all who attended the IETM Galway Satellite meeting which we co-hosted this week. This meeting tackled one of the most urgent topics of our time: Climate Action, with an artistic programme delivered by Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture artists. We’ll continue to work with Catríona Fallon and Creative Carbon Scotland to develop the Green Arts Initiative in Ireland to provide Irish arts organisations with the resources and support to help build a green Irish arts community
