The Inspiration Project at Scotch Hall

by admin / Monday, 08 October 2012 / Published in News, Visual Arts
The transcendent nature of making art can create a bridge between the real and unreal. Inspiration is that bridge. As the root of the word inspiration suggests, it may be perceived as a “Divine Breath” sourced outside of the artist’s personality that breathes life into the work. It is the “Aether” that inhabits it. Though it may be invited, it cannot be controlled. When we are inspired, thankfully, we do not rely upon ourselves alone.
The work in The Inspiration Project portrays an allegory where the artist and the viewer are depicted as a labourer awaiting the arrival of The Muse, The Beloved. They meet and from there they travel through many scenes where we begin to see the world through Her eyes. In time the labourer begins to ask the question “Is She my Idea or am I Hers?”

The work itself is in the form of some very large digitally imagined and hand-painted scenes along with sculpted art objects. It is a way of “turning out” the inner world of the artist in order reveal the reality beneath the surface of things. These pieces are installed in a multimedia scenario made using resin fibre, bronze,  cast stone, readymades, photography and film.

This exhibition coincides with the visit to Drogheda Rotary Club of Istanbul Sisli Rotary Club and celebrates our links in the form of a painting of the Turkish Ship that brought aid during The Famine also featured in the exhibition.

As part of the concept of the project Sean O’Dwyer will be giving practical demonstrations and talks on his work in the space on Wednesday the 10th of October at 10am. If you would like to attend these workshops please contact him at…
