Local Performer Brings Fringe Production Back Home

Théâtre Rua Presents Griffintown

At: The Spirit Store, Dundalk On: Sunday, 19th June 2011

Show at 5 pm sharp. Doors open at 4.30 pm. Tickets: €6

Grab your passport, compass and map, let Théâtre Rua take you down to Griffintown. Having enjoyed a successful run with Griffintown at the St-Ambroise Montréal Fringe Festival in June 2010, two performers, with a suitcase full of characters, bring to life a once upon-a-time Irish neighbourhood in Montréal in a fun and playful way through the art of storytelling and physical theatre.

Théâtre Rua a two person ensemble made of local Dundalk girl, Laura Flynn and Clíona de Brí from Prosperous, Co. Kildare. Théâtre Rua was founded by Laura and Clíona in Montréal in 2009 and they are now back in Ireland to base their projects.

Being from and back living in Dundalk, Laura, a past member of Dundalk Youth Theatre, is delighted to announce Théâtre Rua’s upcoming Irish premiere performance in The Spirit Store, Dundalk. Griffintown has been such a joyful project to work on for Laura thanks a lot to the sense of community she experienced while growing up in Dundalk, and that is why she is very excited to open the show in Dundalk with Clíona. The production is supported by CreateLouth

Through their love of play, Laura and Clíona have devised a piece using stories from the Montréal neighbourhood of Griffintown with the idea of community at the core. A large number of Ireland’s first emigrants found themselves in Québec and Griffintown became a hot pot of Canadian Irish culture.

Laura and Clíóna would love you to be a part of the experience in The Spirit Store on Sunday, 19th June. The performance is suited to all ages and starts at 5 pm sharp. Doors open at 4.30pm. Please find ticket price and booking details above.

Come along to see the show and then enjoy the regular Sunday Spirit Store traditional music session held downstairs afterwards. Bring your friends, family and neighbours!

For further information, please feel to contact Laura on 087-9236446 or email, theatrerua@gmail.com

Laura Flynn is available for interview

‘Journey in Wonder’ is part page-turning travel adventure and part soul searching account of almost two years spent travelling through places as diverse as Montana, India and the Himalayas. Keith has the gift of a storyteller, which makes this ‘journey in wonder’ both accessible and enjoyable for all ages.

It is interlaced with comic situations the author gets himself into, yet suspense, tragedy, supernatural encounters, danger and romance are also woven into the pages of his book

It explores how important the human spirit and ancestral wisdom will be in creating a better world for us all and is a celebration of travelling for the sheer wonder and experience of it. This journey is sure to stay with you long after you read it.

About the Author
Keith Corcoran is a 35 year old writer, Community Worker and Eco Therapy campaigner, based in County Donegal, in the scenic Northwest of Ireland.
Keith lived in Dundalk for 5 years between 1998 and 2003. He founded the Irish Cultural Society in Dundalk I.T., worked part-time at the Spirit Store and was editor of the now legendary ‘Dundalk Peoples Press’ , which helped highlight social, political, and environmental injustices and wrong doings as well as highlighting the folly of the Celtic Tiger when it was still just a young brazen cub.
In 2003 he helped co-found Community Creations and the ‘SpunOut’, (www.SpunOut.ie), multi-award winning national youth agency, which reaches over half a million young people per year.
Keith recently embarked on creating his own website based company called www.journeyinwonder.com to offer publications, insights, walking tours in the Northwest of Ireland, as well as public talks and eco therapy walks.
He can be contacted via email at journeyinwonder@gmail.com

Dundalk School of Music (DSM), the area’s first comprehensive music education and training centre, will make its entrance onto the town’s cultural scene in November.

DSM has a wide range of classes and courses for students of all ages and abilities. Tuition options include private lessons, beginner group instrumental courses (adults and children) musicianship for adults, teens and children. For 5-7 year olds, we have a pre-instrumental course which is designed to prepare a child for instrumental study and can be a real advantage to successful instrument training. Junior and Leaving Certificate syllabus and practical preparation, and various other innovative classes, which make the Dundalk School of Music a truly comprehensive centre for music education.

In an effort to encourage and sustain the musical development of young people in the area in these challenging economic times, DSM will offer a number of means-tested bursaries for students with an aptitude for music who may not have the means to access tuition.

“DSM will be a vibrant, exciting place for students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to reach their musical potential, to develop self-esteem and confidence and play their part in the culturally rich community here in Dundalk,” said Patricia Duffy founder of the Dundalk School of Music. “All of our teachers are fully qualified, experienced and dedicated music educators, and we are delighted to bring it all together in this new school.”
