The timetable for shortlisting will be a maximum of eight weeks. Artists will then be notified in writing whether their proposal has been successful.

For artists who wish to receive feedback on the selection, a meeting can be set up upon prior arrangement.

The criteria

The criteria for selecting artists will be based on the ethos of the centre and will include the following;

The development of the art form by the artist

The significance of the work

Contracts

Transport of work costs

Mission Statement

To transform Droichead Arts Centre into an energetic visual arts space, accessed and understood by the community it serves.

Community arts development is at the core of Droichead Arts Centre’s ethos. This is adopted in our visual art programme to ensure wider community engagement and interaction. This will be facilitated through educational gallery visits, devised workshops, artist’s talks, school programmes and artist network meetings

Art doesn’t always lend itself to unambiguous simple definition. It is a process which evolves in time, manifesting different experiences and expressions for each person. Droichead aims to present a wide multiplicity of artist interpretations in an inclusive, animated and developmental way.

Long term objectives

Droichead Arts Centre will strive to keep up to date with good contemporary arts practices and models.

Droichead Arts Centre will continue to train staff to appreciate and value the visual arts regardless of discipline and to encourage this understanding with visitors.

The Droichead Arts Centre commits having systemic reviews in order to keep abreast of visual arts challenges and needs within the organisation.

Droichead Arts Centre will work closely with Visual Arts Organisations in order remain artist focused and to promote good arts practice within the industry.

A secret garden, higgledy pigs, farmers Betty and Bob, a man who planted trees and Mr Toons, the mega balloon man!!

It can mean only one thing — Leanbh is here again! The annual children’s arts festival is back in Drogheda with a vibrant programme of shows, workshops, drop-in events, and more for young people of all ages, and lots of fun for the whole family too, from the 18th to the 25th October at the Droichead Arts Centre and other venues in Drogheda.

This year offers some cracking shows to engage and delight school audiences, including The Man Who Planted Trees, a beautiful and inspiring blend of comedy and puppetry about a shepherd who sets out (with his dog!) to plant a forest and transform a barren wasteland. A touching tale and a hilarious puppet show by Scotland’s Puppet State Theatre Company taking place on the 18th October.

The Secret Garden on the 20th October is adapted from the classic children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It weaves a thrilling, magical tale of hope and wonder that draws the children into the mysterious world of hidden places, where anything is possible

Three, not so, little pigs in an epic fairytale adventure will visit Termonfeckin. Follow them as they brave the big city to make their fortune and get that dream home! However dreams can cause all kinds of surprises, such as battles on the high seas with pirates and giant monsters!

Mr Toons, as seen on television, brings his completely insane show to The Barbican Centre on the 21st October to arouse laughter from all ages. This Mega Balloon Man disappears into the giant balloon that will live, jumps and turns into fancy shapes, pig, chicken, snails, cow and a sculpture by Salvador Dhali.

A Spell of Cold Weather by Little Duke Theatre is a perfect family show over the Bank Holiday weekend 29th and 30th October. This story is about two sad farmers Betty and Bob whose niece Holly comes to visit. Things pick up however when she meets Tomos Trickman, a puck like fairy who explains to Holly how the two farmers have forgotten how to sing, dance and play games, and worst of all the refuse to believe he exists. This is a heart warming story about how their lives turn around with the help of Tomos!

There are also plenty of workshops including clowning workshops on the 27th and clay workshops in Maureen Finn’s Artist studio on the 30th October. There are the ever popular free storytelling sessions on the 27th October and free art workshops in the gallery around the exhibition ‘Until The End’ by Magnhild Opdol on the 28th October. ‘We’re delighted that 60% of the shows have sold out this year, schools have been really positive about getting involved this year’, according Droichead Arts Centre’s Director Marcella Bannon, ‘in saying that, there are still seats left if schools teachers or parents association wish to encourage their school to participate.’ The festival ticket prices are subsidized by Droichead Arts Centre to ensure shows are accessible to children and family audiences. Now in its 7th Year, there will be 11 shows and a dozen workshops to take place in venues throughout the town.
