An evening packed with favourites as the RTÉ Concert Orchestra embarks on a classical journey spanning east to west. The glorious eastern melodies include Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, famous as the source of the song Stranger in Paradise, and the gorgeous Adagio from Khachaturian’s Spartacus, known to millions as the theme of The Onedin Line. Then we move west to America with exhilarating music including Copland’s rousing Hoedown and Gershwin’s vivid musical portrayal of An American in Paris. A highlight of the evening will be Gershwin’s much-loved Rhapsody in Blue with Drogheda pianist Edward Holly. From  ts famous opening – the clarinet sliding its way up to that high note- through all the colour, energy and memorable melodies that follow,this masterpiece captured the essence of the Jazz Age and won the hearts of the public.
