Harp Festival An Chuirt Chruitireachta

An Chuirt Chruitireachta the International Festival of Irish Harp is celebrating its 25th anniversary. 

An Chuirt Chruitireachta the International Festival of Irish Harp takes place at An Grianán, Termonfeckin, Co. Louth, from 27th June to 1 July 2010 and incorporates a full programme of tuition, a series of public evening concerts, a number of outreach events, a Jubilee Symposium and a Keynote Address which will be given by Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Mary Hanafin T.D.

Sunday 27 June
Fáilte Isteach

Harper Laoise Kelly will launch the festivities, performing with harper Gráinne Hambley and Scottish harper William Jackson. The Festival welcome will be given by the Chair of The Arts Council, An Chomhairle Ealaíon Pat Moylan.

Monday 28 June
Teach lán na gCruitirí

Kathleen Loughnane, harp, will be joined by seannós singer Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaoich and Janet Harbison, harp with her harp orchestra. This will be followed by a late night traditional harp session.

Tuesday 29 June
‘The Irish Harp: Future directions?’

Join us at our Jubilee Symposium, when harpers from all over Ireland and abroad will gather to discuss their vision for the Irish harp. The session will be facilitated by Nicholas Carolan, Director of the Irish Traditional Music Archive and will be prefaced by a talk from music historian, Seán Donnelly on the Irish harp and its origins.

‘Téada agus Scéalta’

Welsh and Irish harp traditions will intertwine in a concert with Paul Dooley, early Irish harper and Welsh triple harper Robin Huw Bowen. This will be followed by a late night storytelling session with storyteller Nuala Hayes and harper Anne-Marie O’Farrell.

Wednesday 30 June
Keynote address from the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mary Hanafin T.D. followed by ‘The Musical Feast’

Local musicians Gerry O’Connor, fiddle, Fintan Vallelly, flute, singer Gerry Cullin and members of the Drogheda Singing Club will take the floor together with harper Dearbhail Finnegan and harper duo, Anne Marie O’ Farrell and Cormac De Barra.

Thursday 1 July
‘Old Friends’

Cairde na Cruite presents its Gala Festival concert featuring harper, Máire Ní Chathasaigh, harper, Helen Davies and sean nós singer Pádraigín Ní Uallachain, Liam Ó Floinn, uilleann pipes, Paddy Glackin, fiddle and Mel Mercier, bodhrán.

They will be joined by the Festival harp tutors with specially arranged harpers’ music celebrating 25 years of An Chúirt Chruitireachta.
