Adding to the two successful and popular art gallery spaces in Drogheda local fabric artist Mel Bradley is bringing a new gallery venue to town. Housed alongside her own Studio at Millmount Craft Quarter ‘Gallery 13’ will showcase the Art of Craft. In an intimate, historical setting the gallery will host exhibitions from artists and crafts people who express their art in traditional materials and ancient skills. Mel wants ‘Gallery 13’ to be a space where everyone is comfortable to drop in, whether it’s a collector, gift buyer or admirer.
Gallery 13 opens with Layered Earth, a new body of work from Ceramic Artist Nanette Ledwith, running from September 20th to 26th October 2019

About the Artist:
Nanette Ledwith is a Ceramic Artist who finds her inspiration in the earth and her materials are of the earth. The view from her studio on the east coast of Louth is a panorama across the fields of ripening crops bordered by the seasonal colours of the hedgerows set against the light reflected in the sea beyond. The colours are rich and real, natures ever changing palette as the sun lifts their vibrancy or the clouds shade and then reveal. To refresh her mews she takes sanctuary on the west coast of Mayo, where the brown fibrous layers of the peat earth are exposed by centuries of turf cutting. The lilac greys of the heather and warm orange crocosmia flowers rippling over their verdant green foliage are set brightly against the earthy tones of the bog. Layering clay slips and glazes in broad brush strokes on to clay, the way a painter would on to canvas, Nanette give expression to the layers of colour and shades that that give her joy. In a new body of work she transcribes her vision of the earth’s layers onto ceramic platters and wall plaques to be shown in ‘Gallery 13’s’ inaugural exhibition on September 20th, at Millmount Craft Quarter in Drogheda.
