by admin / Tuesday, 10 April 2012 / Published in Classical, Louth County Arts, Music, News

Jennifer Murphy will give a violin recital in Carlingford Heritage Centre on Sunday 15th April at 4:00pm.

Jennifer is currently in her fourth year of study for a degree in Music Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under the tutelage of Professor Detlef Hahn. She has performed as a soloist in the National Concert Hall and the Helix, in Dublin, and in various venues around London, Switzerland, France and the USA. As first violinist of the Cassian String Quartet, she has performed in the Wigmore Hall, the Barbican Centre, the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Jennifer has taken part in masterclasses with many prominent musicians including Jacqueline Ross, Itzhak Rashkovsky, Daniel Rowland, the Takacs Quartet, members of the Belcea Quartet and also with Greg Dicterow, leader of the New York Philharmonic. She has recently been awarded a scholarship to study for a Masters in Music Performance and Research with Maurice Hasson at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Jennifer is well known to audiences in Dundalk and Drogheda where she performs on a regular basis with both Setanta Choir and St. Peter’s Male Voice Choir. She gave her first solo public performance at the age of 12 and has continued to delight audiences ever since. Over the years we have seen this young musician grow and develop her wonderful talent. Following a recent performance in London, Jennifer’s playing was described as “passionate and engaging, imaginative and daring … full of fantasy, displaying a technical brilliance that had the audience in thrall.’’ She has been lauded as ‘‘an intelligent, communicative and lively violinist, a joy to watch”.
On this occasion Jennifer will be joined by Yunhee Choi on piano. Yunhee, born in Seoul, South Korea, has also studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where she graduated with a Masters in Music and Music Performance. She has extensive experience as a solo performer, chamber musician and accompanist. She has worked with many eminent musicians and conductors including Iain Burnside, Ralf Gothoni and Martin Katz . She is now based in London and enjoys a busy career as a performer and teacher.
The programme will include Brahms Sonata no.1 in G major for Violin and Piano, Poème Op. 25 by Chausson, Wieniawski’s Lègende and Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy.
Tickets: €10 (Concession €8) available at the door.
