A stipend of €1,000 is included in the prize, to aid with travel from wherever you are in the world.
The Moth is based in County Cavan, said to have a lake for every day of the year, and known to be the birthplace of the mighty River Shannon and Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels.
All one need do to do to enter is send along 5–10 images of your work along with an entry fee of €20. The winner will be notified by 1 June, in good time to choose a clement month in which to spend in Cavan.

2015 – Jamie Mulrooney with ‘The Truth is Not Your Own’
From the west coast of Mayo, Jamie Mulrooney is the driving force behind Doppler with Noel Gallagher. They perform extensively all over the north west in order to make a living but really love to focus on their original material.
“The Truth Is Not Your Own is a terrific song. The delicious harmonies remind me of early Simon and Garfunkel. It has an infectious melody and I like the way it’s played and sung in such an understated way.” Jackie Hayden – Hot Press.
“Having people listen to our music and respond positively is one of the most satisfying elements of creating music. Being named as a finalist of the Clancy Brothers Competition is a really positive step in making the release of our EP a reality and gives us hope that if we work hard enough it can be a growing success.”
‘The Truth is Not Your Own’ will be the lead single on a four track EP due for release soon.
Jamie’s music has been featured on a range of radio stations including BBC Radio UK, 2FM, 2XM, Today FM, Phantom FM (TXFM), 8Radio,Radio Nova, 4FM,98FM, and RTE Radio 1.

2014 – Lisa Loughrey with ‘Lost with All Hands’
Lisa Loughrey is the lead singer with The Mariannes. Formed in 2012, The Mariannes are a Dublin based, six piece Alt Folk band with strong Irish folk, blues and country roots. Their songs are known for their troubling lyrics, beautiful melodies and strong instrumentation.
After Lisa won the Clancy Brothers Songwriting Competition 2014 The Mariannes released their debut EP recorded their debut EP with their winnings and a little help from fundit. The band released the ‘Lost with All Hands’ EP to a packed Whelan’s main venue with special guests The Rattling Kind in April 2015.
’It is easy to hear why Irish music critics are so taken with The Mariannes. Dark songs of hidden pain, with often deceptive and evocative instrumental arrangements combine elements of Irish folk, blues, country and rock to produce an enticing, compelling listen’, Folk Radio UK.
The Mariannes are now set to follow up that success with the release of their new single, ‘The Black Diary Waltz’ this spring. The single will be launched at The Workman’s Club on March 18.

Under the Percent for Art Scheme, Scoil na mBráithre Criostaí (CBS) wishes to commission a new visual art work to celebrate and coincide with the construction and completion of our new school buildings.
Location and History
The Christian Brothers Primary School is located just minutes from the town centre of Dundalk. We have an urban setting and no specific catchment area from which to draw our student population. The current level of enrolment totals 441 pupils.
The Christian Brothers opened their first school in Dundalk in 1868 and the current school building opened in 1940. In a significant change, the school became mixed in 1993 with the enrolment of the first girls. In recent years our school population has grown to include children from many cultural and geographical backgrounds.
We are an area steeped in cultural and mythical history, including elements of the legends of Cú Chulainn, Lugh of The Long Hand and The Táin Bó Cúailnge.
Mission statement and Ethos
- CBS Dundalk is a Co-Educational Catholic Primary School with classes from junior Infants to sixth.
- Our school seeks to provide a holistic education in a welcoming Christian environment, where each child’s uniqueness and dignity is valued, respected and is part of our community.
- We aim to promote the full and harmonious development of all our children.
- We strive to develop their self esteem, mutual respect, and to motivate them to achieve their full potential.
- We uphold the values and principles of a Christian Education within the Catholic Tradition.
- We actively promote and encourage the involvement of parents through our welcoming atmosphere, parents committee and home/school links.
Additional Elements
The promotion of the Irish language and cultural traditions are both firmly upheld within the school environs. We also embrace the ever changing face of Irish society and are keen to develop deepening bonds with other cultures and traditions.
We offer a huge range of activities for our students ranging from choir, art, soccer, rugby, tennis, hurling, football, quizzing, Irish dance, chess, book club and we also have an active student council.
We are a green flag school with top honours and are one of the leading schools in the urban district of Louth. We are very engaged in environmental awareness and also promote healthy and active lifestyles. We are currently pursuing the active schools flag.
We participate in many community and county initiatives and always strive to be dynamic and progressive in our thinking and implementation of ideas. We strongly promote literacy in our school and strive to develop a lifelong love of reading.
The project
The aim of the commission is to provide an opportunity for artists at any stage of their career to develop a new work influenced by the history, context and aspirations of the students, teachers and parents of CBS.
Scope of the project
To present a site specific permanent feature which should:
- Reflect the vision of the school as set above
- Be a permanent piece of durable material
- Reflect the culture and history of the school and local area
- Be distinctive, interesting and appealing to young minds
- It is envisaged that the finished work or works would engage the children on an on-going basis
Suggested Locations
- Enclosed courtyard space in centre of school, this would be an outside space.
- Library area on second floor would provide an internal space.
Site Visit
Artists may visit the school by arrangement with the Art Per Cent Committee. For details contact the school secretary at 042 9335364 or by email cbsprimdlk@eircom.net and put ‘Joanne Dalton’ as subject matter.

Proposals are invited from artists to submit the following:

Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:
- The quality, innovation and artistic merit of the proposal
- Impact and benefit for the school community
- Vision for the delivery of the project outcomes in line with the school ethos and culture
