Sunday 30th June 2019 sees harpers from Ireland and all corners of the world gather at An Chúirt Chruitireachta, Cairde na Cruite’s international Festival for Irish Harp in An Grianán, Termonfechin, Co Louth. For more than thirty years, this TG4 award-winning harp festival, funded by The Arts Council and supported by Create Louth, the Louth Tourism fund and RTÉ Lyric fm, has welcomed world-class harpers and other traditional musicians and singers to perform at its workshops, its lunchtime concerts at Drogheda’s 18th century Tholsel, and to its nightly public concert series at An Grianán.
Festival harp tutors share their music in a relaxed ’no stress’ environment and harpers of every standard are warmly welcomed. And that’s not all. Join Irish harp makers at our harp-making exhibition. Enjoy a ’hands-on’ harp taster. Explore Irish harping techniques and arranging for harp. Learn about traditional ornamentation, session and group playing. Explore the world of seannós singing with renowned singer Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaoich and much more.
Ireland’s premier Irish harpers present unique facets of Irish harping at the Tholsel lunchtime series and at its evening concerts. They will be joined by an exciting line-up: Maeve Gilchrist, Cormac De Barra, Siobhán Armstrong, Janet Harbison, Oisín Morrison, Paul Dooley, Séamas Ó Flaithearta, Triona Marshall, harp ensembles from all over Ireland including Nuanós, Louth’s newest Youth Folk Orchestra, and many others.
